AI for School Leaders

This module helps school and trust leaders make informed decisions about how AI is introduced and used in their organisations. You’ll explore where AI can support leadership tasks, how to evaluate tools and manage risks, and what needs to be in place for AI to be used safely and responsibly.

Through practical scenarios and activities, you’ll consider how AI could support your own priorities, assess the claims made by AI suppliers and explore issues including data protection, safeguarding, bias and accuracy. You’ll also plan how to introduce AI in a way that supports staff and pupils, including how to communicate your approach clearly with staff, governors and families.

Who is it for?

Headteachers and principals, senior and middle leaders, governors and trustees, and leadership teams in schools, colleges and trusts.

You’ll learn how to:

  • identify leadership tasks where AI could provide useful support
  • evaluate whether an AI tool can be used safely, legally and ethically in your setting
  • question supplier claims and assess AI tools against your policies and requirements
  • plan how to introduce AI, including how you’ll communicate with staff, pupils, families and governors
  • use a practical framework to introduce AI on a small scale, review its impact and decide what to do next

How long will it take?

  • This course will take around 60 minutes to complete.

Entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements. However, we recommend completing Getting Started with AI in Education before beginning this module, unless you are already familiar with basic AI concepts in an educational context.
