AI for School Leaders

AI is rapidly entering schools and education systems – often faster than leadership frameworks evolve. This module enables school and trust leaders to make informed, ethical and strategic decisions about AI use, without compromising safeguarding, inclusion or professional judgement.

Rather than promoting AI as a quick fix, the module positions it as a leadership support tool. You’ll explore realistic and responsible use cases, understand common risks, and develop practical strategies for communicating clearly with staff, governors and families about AI use in their setting.

Who is it for

Headteachers and principals, senior and middle leaders, school governors and trustees, and leadership teams in schools, colleges and trusts

 What you’ll learn

  • Identify where AI can support leadership tasks such as planning, communication and quality assurance
  • Understand leadership responsibilities around GDPR, safeguarding, equality and accessibility
  • Recognise potential risks including bias, inaccuracy, over-reliance and data protection concerns
  • Communicate clearly and transparently about AI use with staff, governors and parents
  • Develop a small, realistic and safe AI‑informed leadership action or pilot aligned with your priorities
