Supporting Inclusion with AI

Explore practical ways technology, including AI, can support inclusive practice across learning, communication and wider school life. Learn how accessibility and assistive technologies can help learners access and demonstrate learning, and how generative AI can help staff design more accessible learning experiences. Develop the professional judgement to start with the learner and consider how technology can be used purposefully and responsibly to reduce barriers.

By the end of this module, you’ll be able to:

  • Recognise inclusion as a shared legal and professional responsibility across all school roles.
  • Distinguish between in-built assistive technology, specialist assistive technology and generative AI, and identify how each can support access and participation in learning.
  • Identify practical ways these technologies can remove barriers so learners can access learning and show what they know.
  • Use professional judgement to decide whether AI-generated content is appropriate for the learner, context and intended learning.
  • Communicate clearly with colleagues, learners and families about how and why AI and assistive technology are used to support inclusion.

Teachers, SENDCos, teaching assistants, leaders and support staff.

How long will it take?

  • This module will take 45 – 60 minutes to complete.

Entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements. However, we recommend completing our Getting Started with AI in Education module before starting this course, as this module builds on foundational knowledge of how generative AI works and the considerations involved in using it responsibly in education. If you are already confident in these areas, you can start this module directly.
